Build a Custom HTML5 Video Player: Free Premium Tutorial

Much like the other various Envato marketplaces, our newly launched Tuts+ marketplace will offer a free file each month. For September, that free file/tutorial just so happens to mine! I’ll show you how to build a custom HTML5 video player with Flash fallback support.

Though the idea of a video-specific HTML element was suggested well over a decade ago, we’re only just beginning to see this come to fruition! Forget all of that “HTML5 2012” mumbo-jumbo; the truth is that you can use the video element in your projects right now! The only problem is that the video players are inconsistent from browser to browser, and full-screen support is, at the time of this writing, only available in certain browsers, via a right-click. Further, what if we want to brand our video player? Unfortunately, there isn’t an easy way to do so by default. The solution is to create a custom player that remedies all of these issues.

Resource Hacker for Mac

There is a Windows app known as Resource Hacker, it can open .exe, .dll, .icl, and many more formats to view the bitmaps, icons, and strings inside.

With the help of WineBottler, techline was able to make a “ported” version for mac. The app will only work on Intel macs, the file can be found here.

Long live the battery

Os MacBook desde cedo que vieram revolucionar o mundo dos computadores portáteis, entre todas as vantagens que um Macintosh Portátil tem, a duração da bateria é das mais importantes. – Quem é que gosta de andar sempre com o carregador a trás ? lol 90% das pessoas que conheço com um portátil andam sempre com o carregador, pois a bateria não dura muito tempo ou acaba por morrer e só funciona estando sempre ligado à corrente. Mas será do tipo de portátil, ou semplies-mente da sua manutenção ? A meu ver, deve ser do cuidado que se tem “ou não” com o estado da bateria, os ciclos de carga/descarga e as horas seguidas com o carregador ligado, mas também tem a haver com a configuração do sistema e dos programas que estão a correr.

Já tive um Portátil Windows, que durava umas 2 a 3 horas, depois dei-o à minha Mãe e pouco tempo de pois passou a durar nem 1 hora, agora só mesmo ligado à corrente. Depois veio dizer que lhe dei um portátil estragado lol lol Eu tenho bastante cuidado com a vida de uma bateria, pois é a razão de ter um portátil. Desde que comprei um MacBook, li tudo sobre o assunto e segui sempre o concelho do fabricante e das experiencias de outros utilizadores. Partindo do principio de tudo tem um tempo de vida e se tivermos bastante cuidado esse tempo pode ser optimizado, tenho aqui a prova para todos verem de como é fácil ter uma bateria a 94% com 939 ciclos de carga/descarga bem feitos, já tem 32 meses de vida o que significa muitas, mas mesmo muitas horas de vida !!!

Já tinha mencionado este assunto, aqui e aqui, mas é sempre bom relembrar que devemos ter algum cuidado com a bateria de um portátil, seja ele qual marca for.

Eu uso o coconutBattery para estar a par dos ciclos e do estado da bateria. Este programa é gratuito e não faz mais nada alem de manter um registo para vermos a evolução do estado da nossa bateria.

If you’re fastidious about keeping your windows tidy, Stay is for you. Stay ensures that your windows are always where you want them to be, even as you connect and disconnect displays. Move your windows to where you want them, then have Stay store them. Once stored, windows can be returned to their stored state at any time by having Stay restore them.

Stay can store a set of windows for every combination of displays that you use with your computer. For example, if you have a laptop that is sometimes connected to an external monitor, you can store two sets of windows in Stay; one with the external monitor connected and one without.
